Known Locations in Brindon

Map and Description Numbering
The numbers for location descriptions start at 1 for each district. References are listed as in [D14], with the letter indicating the district from the list above.

[A] The Citadel District

The imposing stronghold and fortress of the city and headquarters of the Red Guard.

A1 CITADEL GULES
The keep is roughly 120′ × 110′ and seven stories high. When he is not abroad, Duke Chermal Brindon occupies the Tower of the Revenant. The keep is also the residence of the Knight Warden (military governor) of Brindon, and the headquarters of the Red Guard which is charged with the security for the whole city, but concerns itself only with protecting the Council of Nobles (and often only those it likes).
Political prisoners (guests under house confinement) are often placed in the Red Spire, the easternmost tower of the Citadel. Less fortunate prisoners are kept in the infamous dungeons below the keep.
[a] House of Huridela, a bonded master weaponcrafter to Duke Brindon.
[b] House of Urdis, a bonded master ostler to Duke Brindon.
[c] Granaries

[B] Quilon District

A quiet district of gentry, scholars, and temples (Atros, Myraginee and Xylor)

B2 TEMPLE OF THE ORDER OF THE KEEPER OF ARCHIVES
A temple to Myraginee, this studious order maintains sizable archives of lore, including historical documents and records. It takes virtually no interest in politics.

B5 GULES PALACE
The compound of the Chief Herald of the Principality of Finsdale. The palace is the repository of the heraldic records of the Principality and the local guildhall of the College of Heralds.

B6 CHANTRY OF THE GUILD OF ARCANE LORE
This is not so much a guildhall as a covert hostel for visiting members and a permanent home for a few local alchemists and loreists. The hall is supported by donations from members (there os no formal dues structure).

B9 CATHEDRAL OF DIVINE DELIVERANCE Kwyrth
Being a holy place of Kwyrth, the temple is rarely used by parishioners for services. Instead it is a place to bring the newborn for blessings the cursed to be purged of their malady, and of course , for the majority, it is a site to bring those who have passed on for proper burial rites. The cathedral’s walls are of black granite, supported by flying buttresses, and rise 100 feet to the church’s slate-shingled roof. A bell tower above each wing climbs 50 feet higher than the main structure. Each tower’s bells are tuned to different tones, and are rung for different occasions—important births, deaths, and the revelation or fulfillment of prophecies. The cathedral’s bells of prophecy have not rung since Good King Mark’s death. The clergy of Kwyrthh oversee the Next Level Ossuary (B10), the most prestigious place in Brindon to be buried—and the Kwyrthites charge a hefty fee for the honor.

B10 NEXT LEVEL OSSUARY Kwyrth
The clerics of the Cathedral of Deliverance (B9) oversee the maintenance of the Ossuary, wherein the majority of Brindon’s wealthy are laid to rest. As a matter of religious doctrine, the Church of Kwyrth keeps the Next Level Ossuary forbidden to all but the clergy and the honored dead—mourners are restricted to the ossuary’s entrance or the cathedral.

B11 QUILON GUILD OF GUIDES
A highly renown and classy guildhall for the local guides guild.

[C] Carana District

Home to the grandest building on the Shimmering Isle, the Chamber of the Red Domes. Many government officials live in this well-patrolled enclave.

C2 PALACE OF THE RED DOMES
The council hall of Brindon is named for its five crimson domes. It was built as a palace of the first Provincial Regent but its first actual tenants were members of the first noble bureaucracy. The building was damaged by fire as the city fell to the Southerners in TBA, and it was burned in the riots that followed the assassination of the Regent now known as Saint Brindon in TBA. The palace was partly restored in TBA to serve as the Grand Council chambers, and fully refurbished in TBA when it became the home of the Brindon High Council. The color of the domes is due to the properties of a now exhausted deposit of Brinnic clay that was used to sheathe them; the original hue was a brilliant, an unusual scarlet, but reddish brown would accurately describe the present color. The Hall of St. Brindon is located beneath the central dome, an amphitheater which seats up to a hundred council members, surrounded by alcoves and private consultation chambers where most of the significant political activities occur. Many rooms are either unused, employed as storerooms or underutilized. Around thirty council members, the career politicians, maintain offices or suites in the wings. The service quarters, housing groundskeepers, kitchen and other staff and a small guardhouse manned by the Red Guard are located at te south end of the west wing.

C3 BRINDON MINT
Most of the kingdom’s coinage is made here. The building is of stone construction with walls up to 10 feet thick. The dome on top is similar to those atop the palace of Red Domes, (C2) but is more solidly constructed. The operation of the mint falls under the jurisdiction of the council and is usually delegated to a single noble counselor. This is a very choice post since the opportunities for creative accounting are extensive. The actual work is done by a bonded master of the Jewellers Guild and his apprentices.

[D] Syluda District

Many artists live here, along with the temples of Aliin and the Pantheist League. The Order of the Checkered Shield tries to keep the peace. The The Red Cloaks are known to have a secret stronghold somewhere within Syluda.

D6 THE TEMPLE OF ALL
The temple building itself is divided into three shrines. The central (main) building holds Brindon’s Pantheist League. The west wing houses the Order of the Balm of Joy ( Sylantrope) and the east wing contains The Irreproachable Order of the Depths ( Ambio). The four buildings to the northwest are hospitals. The compound is guarded by a handful of guards provided by the Order of the Checkered Shield (D7).

D7 THE TEMPLE OF THE SHINING DAWN
This temple to Allin maintains a quiet presence in Brindon, resting in the ominous shadow of the Pantheist church next door. The clerics espouse anti-pantheist sentiments and the temple is something of a center for those favoring the Separationist movement. There is a chapter house of the fighting-order, the Checkered Shield, within the temple; this order also provides guards for The Order of the Balm of Joy and The Irreproachable Order of the Depths annexed to The Temple of All (D6), as well as serving as protectors of the hospital buildings.

[E] Elatus District

The Grand Arena, Palace of the Prefect, and temples to Pyratus and Xylor are the most prominent buildings in this district.

E1 THE STAKE (Umen of Hound’s Run)
Size: 13   Quality: ✰✰✰   Prices: Average
Freemaster ostler, Yigal of Swilden. The sign outside shows an unfortunate being impaled, in honor of the nearby gate (L2).

E4 THE SETTING SUN ARENA
The largest arena on the Shimmering Isle. Used for spectacle and gladiatorial combat, as well as hosting the Grand Tournament every other year (Brindon trades that honor with Finsdale). The land on which the arena stands was forcibly purchased by the prefect and warden of Brindon in TBA, despite violent resistance from local landlords in residence which forced the use of troops to quell the rioting. The two men resold the parcel to the Order of the Octagonal Pit (E3) and were able to retire in great comfort. The scandal outraged many citizens, but the opening of the games and TBA, and their subsequent popularity with the masses quashed any thought of legal action that might have been pending. The games are held twice monthly and are well attended. The Order of the Octagonal Pit retain the original combats between various opponents, but have also grown to include a wide variety of spectacles that must surely turn the stomach of any viewer with a modicum of sensitivity.

The setting sun arena is quite lavish. Pleasant, often sexually lewd statues adorn the promenades. The building itself was faced with a variety of stones at great expense, and craftsmen are continually adding to the decoration. The games are not able to obtain as many strange/wild beasts as they once had. They will pay a high price for any exotic creatures worthy of combat against worthy opponents. Admission ranges from 1sp to 20sp, depending on the seat and the contents of the show.

[F] Westside District

The poorest and most dangerous part of the city. Most of the residents are desperate laborers. Many smaller underworld guilds vie to control interest in Westside.

Size: 3 Quality: ✰✰ Prices: Average

F4 TEMPLE OF THE ORDER OF THE MACE ( Pyratus)

F5 THE BLIND LASS TAVERN
Size: 1 Quality: ✰ Prices: Average
Also called The Blind Bitch, the tavern insults Sylantrope with its decor. There are three residential rooms and flop house space in the attic. The cellar is kept under lock and key. Rumored to be a contact point for the Golden Star Guild.

[G] Heryn District

A residential district with many guildsmen. Foreigners find the area welcoming compared to other parts of the city.

G2 THE GLAIVE AND SICKLE (Orinin of Ashelon)
Size: 6   Quality: ✰✰✰   Prices: Average
Clientele includes those associated with the Ministerelle’s Games and the Setting Sun Arena, including Knights of the Order of Slayers, Pyratus Clerics, animal procurers and the like. Not friendly to strangers.

[H] Kotros District

This busy market district is the economic engine of the city, containing busy shops, the temple of Lynnaris, and the city granaries.

H3 PALACE OF PENTACLES
Hall of the Brindon chapter of the Master’s Guild. The building is named after the Court of Pentacles, an economic advisory body centuries past. The present day Master’s Guild developed out of this body. The Master’s Guild appoints a special council to advise the Prefect (E2); it meets here monthly.

[I] Rafters’ Wharf District

The city’s bustling docks are a haven for smugglers.

I1 RAFTERS’ WHARF (Fishmarket)
Rafters’ Wharf is also used for other activities connected with river traffic. Fish may be sold, except on holidays, between dawn and dusk.

[J] Eldin District

This fishing village is the site of Brindon’s main mill, ostlers’ common, and Seamen’s Guild.

J1 VILLAGE OF ELDIN
Primarily a fishing village and a watering hole for poor riverfolk. The Seaman’s Guild (J2) is located here. Most Landlords/residents pay property taxes to the city.

[K] Kerabin District

A poor semi-rural village controlled by the Order of the Sanguine Cape.

[L] Omagil District

The poor residents of this semi-rural village consider themselves better off than those who live in Westside and Walain.

[M] Walain District

The poorest of Brindon’s villages beyond the walls is home mostly to laborers.

[N] Finsrest District

This small trading village on the tip of this peninsula is the gateway to the interior of the Principality of Finsdale.

[O] Sunrise District

A castle town in the shadow of the great city. Home to the magistrate and marshal of Sunrise Province, it was part of The Principality of the South only a decade ago.
